Shark Conservation Campaign
Replacing Myths with Scientific Knowledge
Sharks have roamed our oceans since before the time of dinosaurs, but their long reign at the top of the ocean food chain is now severely threatened. Coastal development, commercial bycatch, habitat destruction, massive overfishing created by the shark fin trade, and poor public awareness of their role in ocean ecosystems are pushing many shark species toward extinction. Particularly disturbing is the lack of information on how marine ecosystems will be impacted by the drastic declines in shark populations.
By bridging modern research on shark behavior, physiology and ecology to the forefront of society, FCF’s Shark Conservation Campaign is trying to change public awareness on the value of sharks through education and outreach. Our campaign activities include:
- Education Regarding Myths About the Danger of Sharks
- Best Handling Practices for Recreation Angling of Sharks
- Historical Surveys in The Bahamas
- Symposia and Workshops
- Partners
